Joining the orchestra

Lydian is a friendly, welcoming and supportive orchestra with players aged 13 to 24 coming from across the South East.

We do not hold auditions, but we ask that members of the main orchestra are of Grade 7 standard or above. For enthusiastic younger players, we also offer the Lydian Training Orchestra. LTO meets three times a year for a fun-packed weekend of music-making, aimed at players of around Grade 3 to 6 standard.

The orchestra does three courses a year, generally rehearsing around Sevenoaks and Tonbridge and performing in venues such as Pamoja Hall in Sevenoaks School and Tonbridge Parish Church.

Our Winter Course normally features a concerto performed by the Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year, and our Spring Course is often a concerto workshop weekend, where members of the orchestra have an opportunity to perform a movement of a piece as a soloist.
